The 14th International Conference of the Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM) is the
premier conference on information retrieval. This conference is the only conference whose primary purpose
is to foster collaberation between the information retrieval, database, and knowledge management communities.
The conference was started in 1992 and has steadily grown to be widely accepted as a key forum to present
new findings in information retrieval, database systems, data mining, and knowledge management. Attendees
hear about very recent research results and are able to speak directly with their developers. Typically about
200-300 people attend the conference from academia, industry, and government. Numerous graduate students attend
CIKM to present their papers and to learn more about the field. A best student paper is awarded as well.
The 2005 conference is the 14th annual conference, and will be held on October 31st - 5th November 2005 in
Bremen, Germany. This year's General Chair is Prof. Otthein Herzog, University of Bremen. CIKM has had an
acceptance rate below 20% for the past several years and got more than four hundred submissions in 2005.
The five-day event will include presentations of research papers, poster papers, demonstrations of commercial
and research software, a day of tutorials, and two days of post-conference workshops. There will also be a display
of IR and database related products, including textbooks and research monographs.
We are now seeking sponsorship for the 2005 conference. Previous major sponsors of CIKM include Hyperion,
IBM, Microsoft and Kluwer. All sponsors will be formally acknowledged at the opening of the conference and
links acknowledging institutional support will be made from the conference home page to the home page of sponsors
as well. Opportunities for a major sponsor include hosting and speaking at the conference banquet, complimentary
receptions, and student travel scholarships.
