Interdisciplinary College 2010 - Play, Act and Learn

The Interdisciplinary College (IK) is an annual, intense one-week spring school which offers a dense state-of-the-art course program in Computational Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Computational Linguistics and Neurobiology. Additionally the IK will feature several method courses on multi-agent systems, functional neuroimaging, language games and machine learning. Therein participants are offered hands-on experiences in state of the art approaches to research and implement different learning strategies and their motivational underpinnings.
The focus theme of IK-2010 is "Play, Act and Learn", and seeks to examine the function of playing, fun and entertainment in humans and animals as well as on neuronal levels. For this the organizers have created a program that covers the following aspects:
- Cooperation and game theory on biological, economic and psychological levels
- Language games and language evolution
- Human computation, serious gaming and entertainment computing
- The role of play in human development
- Computer games
- Playing and learning from animals to robots
It is aimed at students, postgraduates and researchers from academia and industry. By combining humanities, science and technology, the IK endeavours to intensify dialogue and connectedness between the various disciplines. Participants come mainly from European countries, lecturers from all over the world. In 2010 the Interdisciplinary College is organized by the work group Digital Media (Prof. Dr. Rainer Malaka) of the Technologie-Zentrum für Informatik und Informationstechnik (TZI).
