Concerted Activities

Innovative solutions require networked competencies. TZI is making an essential contribution to the innovation process through our interdisciplinary orientation with respect to information and communications technologies which harnesses the dynamic synergy among distinct specialised fields into four concerted activities.

The scientific spectrum of guiding principles ranges from:

  • Developments for the next generation of mobile telephone communication

  • New forms of interaction between humans and information technologies or human-machine interaction and media competence

  • Concepts for the efficient use of ultra mobile information systems

  • Higher system quality for new information security measures

The principal goal is to develop technologies that point the way to the future collaboratively, within distinct TZI working groups and to continuously work toward the development of these technologies into practically applicable solutions.

Adaptive Communication

Adaptability on all levels – from antenna to application – is the operative concept for the communications systems of the future, in order to give users the opportunity for appropriate means of communication anywhere and anytime.

TZI works toward realising this goal by engaging in interdisciplinary research and development in the fields of electrical engineering, information technology and computer science. Adaptability is realized within the framework of the guiding principles. Research concentrations include adaptive antennas (i.g. for MIMO systems), RF frontends, transmission and coding schemes, communications protocols and intelligent, adaptive systems. [more...]

Interaction and Education

The pervasive influence of digital media and services in all areas of life is revolutionising interaction modalities with technical media and is changing the way we communicate. Access to digital media that is as simple and natural as possible is of decisive importance for the success, integration and positive influence of digital media in both leisure and work contexts. It is also essential that educational requirements exist and that people have the ability for further personal development by means of digital media and to participate in all facets of society. Education is the requirement for, as well as the result of such interaction. The new guiding concept is intended to take these points into consideration, integrate them into everyday life and to advance the development of new human-machine interaction modalities. [more...]

Mobile Solutions

“Computing anytime, anything and anywhere” – TZI pursues this vision through the guiding principle “Mobile Solutions” in [wearLab]. This involves the development of solutions for increasingly mobile work and everyday environments. The areas to which traditional information and communications technologies could not be applied range from logistics, production and maintenance to medical care and emergency medicine, to support systems for domestic environments. New mobile technologies and interaction strategies that have been developed in [wearLab] represent promising solutions for the future. [more...]

System Quality and Information Security

The digitalisation of information and the introduction of new technologies are influencing today’s society and the way we communicate to a greater extent than ever before. These developments present many opportunities, but also risks. System quality is an essential requirement, if new technologies are to be accepted and trusted. This means that software must be able to be maintained and as free of errors as possible. At the same time, information is to be adequately protected for organisations as well as private users. This guiding principle provides the framework for TZI to meet these challenges by combining methods for ensuring system quality with information security concerns. [more...]
